Pair of Gilt Metal Processional Lantern Standards, Continental, Late 19th Century

An impressive and unusual pair of tall processional lantern standards, likely Continental, executed in gilt metal with richly cast and pierced lantern forms.

Each lantern is surmounted by a finial, one retaining a cross, above a domed canopy adorned with foliate ornament and openwork detailing. The bodies are fitted with glass panels now aged and partially obscured, framed by beaded borders and supported by scrolling arms terminating in floral elements.

The surface retains a warm, worn gilt finish with desirable age and patina The lanterns are raised on long, tapering poles with turned collars.
