A superb matched pair of French cast-iron Medici urns dating to circa 1870, distinguished by their generous scale, classical form and nearly 150 years of beautifully accumulated surface history.

Each urn follows the traditional campana silhouette, with a broad rolled rim, flared body, rounded knop and square plinth base. Successive layers of cream and green paint have weathered naturally over time, revealing passages of dark iron, oxidation and earlier color beneath. The result is a richly layered patina that could never be convincingly reproduced.

At more than 22 inches tall, the pair has enough presence to flank an entrance, garden gate or conservatory doorway, yet remains beautifully proportioned for an interior filled with architectural antiques. The deep planting wells will accommodate substantial botanical specimens or seasonal arrangements.

France, circa 1870. Cast iron. Sold as a pair.

Each measures approximately 22¼ inches high × 16 inches in diameter. Square base measures 8⅝ inches. Planting well measures approximately 15 inches deep × 7¼ inches in diameter.

Presented in authentically weathered condition with extensive paint loss, oxidation, surface variation and wear consistent with age and outdoor use. Please review photographs.
