Monumental Italian Ebonized and Parcel-Gilt Pedestals — A Pair

A monumental pair of Italian ebonized and parcel-gilt pedestals with extraordinary architectural presence. Slender, gently tapered columns rise from broad quatrefoil bases, punctuated by deeply carved lotus and palmette ornament before terminating in substantial circular display platforms.

The ebonized finish gives the pair a disciplined severity, while restrained gilding catches the carved edges and reveals the richness of the workmanship without becoming overly decorative. Designed to elevate sculpture, urns or botanical specimens, they are commanding enough to stand entirely on their own.

An uncommon matched pair capable of framing an entry, defining a gallery or lending grandeur to a large interior.

Presented in vintage condition with rubbing, surface variation and losses to the ebonized and gilt finishes consistent with age. Maker and precise date unknown. Sold as a pair.
