A striking American Empire center table, attributed to the manner of J. & J.W. Meeks, with a substantial rectangular white marble top and softly rounded corners. The richly figured dark wood base is architectural in character, centered by a faceted pedestal that expands into a dramatic four-sided support.

The pedestal terminates in four boldly scrolled and carved legs, each sweeping outward in the characteristic manner of mid-19th-century American Empire furniture and ending in brass casters. The combination of dark polished wood, monumental proportions, sculptural carving, and luminous marble gives the table a particularly elegant presence.

The restrained rectangular top contrasts beautifully with the elaborate base, making this a versatile piece for a formal sitting room, library, entry hall, salon, or layered garden-inspired interior. It would also make an exceptional display table for books, botanical objects, flowers, or collected antiques.

The design reflects the strong architectural vocabulary and substantial scale associated with mid-19th-century New York Empire furniture, with the base particularly evocative of the Meeks aesthetic.
