An exceptional Danish sterling silver wine ewer by renowned Copenhagen silversmith Anton Michelsen, dated 1900. The sculptural form features an elongated scrolling handle, dramatic flared spout, pedestal base, and richly embossed foliate ornament throughout.
The underside bears the Michelsen crown mark, Copenhagen three-tower mark for 1900, Simon Groth assay mark, and “925” sterling standard. Particularly noteworthy is the hand-inscribed notation along the base: “Made for the Exhibition in Paris 1900,” connecting the piece to the year of the Exposition Universelle in Paris.
A substantial and highly decorative example of turn-of-the-century Danish silver, equally striking displayed as an object or used as a vessel.
