Successive layers of cream and green paint have weathered naturally over time, revealing passages of dark iron, oxidation and earlier color beneath. The result is a richly layered patina that could never be convincingly reproduced.

At more than 22 inches tall, the pair has enough presence to flank an entrance, garden gate or conservatory doorway, yet remains beautifully proportioned for an interior filled with architectural antiques.
